Ogham Poetry

The Revised Ogham Poem by Oromë
Oimelc 2000

The first of our fedhas is Beithe
Whose tree is known as birch
It’s the spark of life, not church
And that’s ogham enough for me-tha!

Fedha two is known as Luis
Rowan’s thought of as its tree-sh
Protection and magick - sheesh!
That’s ogham enough for me!

Fedha three is Fearn
With alder its tree, I learn
Foundation, solidity - man!
That’s ogham enough for me!

The fourth fedha is Saille
Whose willows yearn to feel
Mystery, love; it’s not unreal
That’s ogham enough for me-el!

Our fifth fedha goes by Nion
Nion’s tree is one of ash
Balance, the Web: well, they don’t clash
We’ve reached the second aicme!

Fedha six is known as Huath
Tho’ hawthorns make a darn poor cloth
Chastity, restraint it means, not troth
That’s ogham enough for me!

The seventh fedha’s Duir
Its oak is not so poor
Endurance and strength’s its lure
which is ogham enough for me!

Fedha eight is Tinne
Whose holly grows on the vin-ne
Vict’ry and judgment, to my chagrin-ne
Is ogham enough for me!

The ninth fedha is Col
Tasting hazelnuts in the fall
Creative insight - wear a shawl
Warm and ogham enough for me!

Fedha ten is known as Quiert
With apple trees growin’ in the dirt
Beauty and love - Red Alert!
Third aicme - coming up!

Fedha ‘leven? Hi, I’m Muin
My brambles are in Ireland
Intertwining, we all win
That’s ogham enough for me!

Number twelve is known as Gurt
Where blacksmiths practice their calm sport
and starfish open clams at port
That’s ogham enough for me!

Lucky thirteenth is Ngtel
Bend the reeds; they will not fall
Remain true to self, for that is all
that’s ogham enough for me!

Fourteen here, I’m known as Straif
Controlling your world through will so safe
Blackthorn’s the tree protecting thee
That’s ogham enough for me - and thee!

The fifteenth ogham’s name is Ruis
A magical change, more than a weesh
Burn elder not or cursed you’ll be-esh
One more aicme to go!

Ogham sixteen’s name is Ailm
Oddly enough, its tree’s the elm
Independence is its realm
And that’s ogham enough for me!

Seventeen oghams, this one’s On
Integrating till the parts are gone
You’ll find its tree is gorse, of course
’Tis ogham enough for me!

Number eighteen? My name is Ur
You’ll find me among the heather
Obsession? Passion? Temper, temper!
That’s ogham enough for me!

Ogham nineteen is called Edath
Overcoming fears, moving on the path
Trees aspen and poplar: you do the math
For it’s ogham enough for me!

The final ogham’s known as Idho
Death and transition, I know, I know
Tree of yew, to Beithe we go
